I have been intrigued by the thought that we, as Christians, are to be One Anothers. It means we are to be individual strands that come together to form a strong cord. We are to be Intertwined, to the extent that we can be people who live in harmony with one another.
Paul, in Romans chapter 12, makes a statement concerning the conduct of One Anothers. He says that we are to live in harmony with one another. Seems simple enough. Unfortunately, this has not been the case. Instead of cultivating harmony with one another, we Christians have cultivated a climate of chaos. I dare not list reasons why this seems to be the case, for fear of creating further chaos. Instead, allow me to call your attention to the words of Paul, stated in three different ways, by three different Bible translations.
- (ESV) Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight.
- (NLT) Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people.
- (MSG) Get along with each other; don’t be stuck-up. Make friends with nobodies; don’t be the great somebody.
Based upon an intense study of this passage, I have drawn three profound and deeply theological conclusions:
#1. Avoid being snobbishly-snooty. Instead, pursue harmonious-humility.
#2. Avoid becoming an egotistical-egghead. Instead, pursue godly-wisdom.
#3. Avoid becoming a self-righteous saint. Instead pursue living in harmony with one another.
I warned you that it was deep! So deep, in fact, that it is common sense, concerning our Christian conduct. The kind of common sense that is becoming to the One Anothers that Christ has called us to be.
Just some harmonious thoughts, from the Heart and Mind of Victor.
